Ok, no more letting these good ideas fall by the wayside. Let's do one! Since it's expected Monday that United and Continental will announce a merger, how about we do a livery contest incorporating at least one element from each livery? Aircraft choice doesn't matter, and photo vs template doesn't matter, just make it good! How about a deadline of next Friday at 9:00 PM Eastern (GMT -5)? We'll post the entries in this thread and once it's all done, set up an online poll and run it through the weekend. And I think this one is our first nominee. ![]() Patrick Admin Proud Member Since 2003
And we have two more submissions from Anthony Harding: Number One Number Two I'll try to get working on mine later this week. My last final is on Tuesday and I'm free ![]() ![]() Patrick Admin Proud Member Since 2003
My entryhas been accepted. Surprisingly, it's not too far off base from the real thing. We've had a couple linked on Airliners.net with the merger thread. More may be later as they read more. I would have never thought in a million years they would go with what they did, but it does take United's name with Continental's image. Seems like a good mix. I just compared Serif Bold to Times New Roman Bold and I don't see a difference. Is there one? ![]() Patrick Admin Proud Member Since 2003 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/03/2010 10:56PM by N776AU. I hate the new livery! They should definitely go with mine ![]() But seriously, I don't think that I could ever get used to it. Firstly, in my book, I have always associated the globe with Continental, and I think I always will. It will be hard seeing a plane with the globe on it and saying, that's United! No, whenever I see the globe on the tail, it's Continental, and whenever I see the U tulip, that will always be United. I have always had a soft spot for that U tulip since I was 3. When we used to go to ONT to pick up my brother, he always flew UA from BOS, and we always sat by the gate waiting for his (90% of the time delayed) flight from his connection in SFO. In the meantime, I always gazed around the boarding hall, always staring at UA's tulip U logo plastered all over the place (this boarding hall was a large room that housed 3 gates, all devoted to UA, so therefore it was full of decorations all UA, even color keyed wall-to-wall carpet), and thinking how much I liked that logo compared to AS's logo, since we frrequently flew AS to visit my grandma in SEA. I have also always looked upon that Continental globe as the logo from that (really small service compared to everyone else) carrier in ONT who used to only run 2 M80s to IAH for the longest time without any changes to the flights or equipment type. Still, it does seem like a well-suited combination, since UA is a more valuable name and the CO globe is a good logo for a worldwide airline. As far as the font, it looked good when it said Continental, but when it says United, it just looks awkward. I really hope they come up with a new livery and an updated logo. But on the bright side, I see a bright future for this airline, maybe like today's version of Pan Am. ![]()
