Well, my friend got some new wheels, this is something for you Robert :-)
This 62 De Ville was originally sold in Yukon, Oklahoma, and also we retrived a dealer sticker from Broken Bow, probably been in the State all the time until imported to Sweden in 2002. What it hs been doing in OK, We don't know, except its not been doing much at all, car has a genuine 68000 miless on it! All throghtout an original car indeed, only things discovered is rear right lower fender been fixed once, and front fenders resprayed. ![]() Photographer © Mårten Carlsson [www.cardatabase.net] ![]() Photographer © Mårten Carlsson [www.cardatabase.net] Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

That's a nice old Caddy, Marten. There are a lot of great old cars here, and now that the weather is warming up, we'll being seeing more of them.
If your friend still has the Oklahoma license plate, I could probably tell you where it's been, at least at time the tag was current. Yukon is on the west side of Oklahoma City, and is my wife's hometown. I'll ask her if she recognizes it. Who knows? She just might.
Broken Bow is in the far southeast corner of the state, far off the beaten path. A nice part of the state, though. "I feel the need..., the need for speed!" Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

No licence plate found, but it turns out the car was imported by a friens nearby here, immediately sold and registered up north in the country, and just recently offered for sale here in Gothenburg.
It still hs the dealership badge on the rear lid from Copper in Yukon. ![]() Photographer © Mårten Carlsson Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Jackie Cooper was a big car dealer in central Oklahoma back in the 1960's. I think they're are still around, but much smaller these days. I have to go to Oklahoma City on Monday, and I'll see what I can find out.
If they are still in business, I'll show them the photos, and see what they can tell me. If you can send me the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), I might even be able to find out who the original owner was, and when it was purchased, along with details about the car itself. You can send it to me e-mail at: robertconner471@yahoo.com Don't post it publicly. Robert "I feel the need..., the need for speed!" Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Lucky??? winter may be tremendously beautiful with snow and frostbiten trees and all that, but honestly, winter is bets appreciated on a postcard... after we hit -24C the other night the water went for permanent vacation, pump froze... In the morning, I looked with a flashlight down the radiator of the car, and saw a green glacier since the anti-freeze actually had frozen rock bottom, fiddling with numb fingers with a cold metal starting key to get the solid frozen engine to start, I cannot really descripe, it would be like describing colors to a blind...
Maybe should check up how much a ticket to Panama costs.... Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Well, -24C is really low, but at least you're not melting like here. I have a friend who's from Denmark, he arrived last August, and I'm sure he's always melting.
In Mexico I used to have nice winters, -5C to 16C, and hot dry summers, 37C-46C, that's probably why I love the winter. Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Felipe, you do have a freezer home, dont you?
Imagine, every single morning... when stepping out the door... unscrew the light bulb within the freezer so it gets pitch black... then stick your head into that freezer, unfortunately there is no chilling northern breeze that cuts through the bones within such a kitchen utilarity, but when your nose starts to turn blue after couple of minutes, thats what we are up to experiate allday and night, month after month here right now... though I'm pretty lucky, that I live in the southern part of this country. I have air conditioner in every single space of the house, except for the kitchen, and the meditation huts (restrooms), same in school, but the last week 3 air conditioners broke down, and so 6 classrooms were without air conditioner, horrible, we ended up working in the library, computer lab, even in the cafeteria.
Are you the one removing the snow in front of the Caddy? My last snow was in 1999, since then, I had -xC temperatures (where x represents any number), but no more snow ![]() Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

No, thats not me shuffling the snow there... But the other pics is my drveway and my house.
On the other hand I don't envy tropical climate with a broken down A/C either :-) Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

We had the A/C of our car broken down also on December I think, we spent only the rest of the day with it, and the next day we took it to the dealer to repair it, and we rented a car for the weekend while it was fixed.
The only thing I hate about cold climates is the shower time, you suffer when you're naked, then you get into the shower and don't want to come out. Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

And is your house always warm in winter??
In Mexico we have indoors too, but, because the cities that are cold in winter are very hot on summer, we simply can´t have walls with 10 inches of thermal insulation, and so they´re very cold in winter. Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

building standard here requires just theses 10" insulation... but my house has not..

Robert, if you can find out about that Cadillac from Cooper, I'll appreciate it a lot, its impossible for me as a foreigner to track a car via the DMV. Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Wow, I just said 10" as a random number, and I was exact haha.
Is it possible to go to the DMV and ask details about a random car? Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Marten, I'll certainly try, but because of privacy polices of the state, I won't be able to obtain any information from the DMV.
I'll have to try and see if Jackie Cooper has any information, but don't hold your breath. I honestly doubt that they will have anything> Uless they are bigger pack-rats than I am!
But I will try tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out. Robert Conner "I feel the need..., the need for speed!" Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

great :-)
I know that DMV registers are classified stuff, which don't even allows you to track down you own vehicle... This makes a nice catch 22 when youn are about to export a car fom the US. You are not allowed to export a vehicle if it has been reported stolen naturally, but if it was stolen last month, or 1955 doesn't matter. As a privat person I think you can ytrack a car back three owners or something like that. The custom however have full access to the registers. So, youself have no possibility to check out if the car is "green" but the custom can just take it away from you, tihis happened rcently to a swedish guy who had bought a Corvette, They discovered that it had been reported stolen in 1969... Yes, I saw the story about the Corvette on the news. Lucky fellow!
We had a bunch of tornadic storms blow through here last night, but thankfully, no one was harmed. But there was some property damage, and the city had to cut the gas off to all of the houses on my street, because some debris landed on a natural gas manifold causing it to leak. Because of this, I had to stay home today to make sure that when the gas came back on, there wasn't a fire. Gas is on, and no fire. Thank God! Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow to go to Oklahoma City. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow night. Sorry about the delay, but some things just cannot be helped. Robert "I feel the need..., the need for speed!" Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

A friend got an ordeal with a container when shipping out three Pontiacs, trnsport was delayed soince another container in that shipment was subjected to an invstigation claiming the terrorrist law, so they opened ALL the cans, so even his innocence , he was charged by the shipping agency for two month extra AND another $1500 for that custom had gone through his stuff!!!
There were three '65 Bonnevilles in that container, regarding to how common these mid-sxities Pontiacs are here, are there ANY left in the US of them? After lending a '65 Catalina for a couple of weeks last summer, I can easily see why they are so popular, magnificent machine indeed! Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Marten, I wasn't able to get any info about the Cadillac from Jackie Cooper, except that it seems that they sold it as a used car sometime after 1976. They didn't start using that style of nameplate until then. Prior to that, they simply used a sticker.
No one there could help me with anything else. Their records don't go back that far. Sorry, I wish that I could have been more help.

I think that's the bad side of the old cars, specially in Europe where the gas prices are sky high. The only place where it's cheap to have them is Venezuela, where filling the tank is less than $2.
Right now I'm happy with my dad's Prado, that gives an average of 400 kilometers per tank. Felipe Garcia

I don't really care actually, i have the oppurtunity to drive such cars on daily basis...and I dont envy anyone around in traffic púlling up with their brand new Volvo, mercedes, BMW whatever, I know I'm better off than them.
As a hobby, hobbies costs, no matter whether you play hockey, golf, going shooting, hunting whatever, for me, the extra money its cost me in gas, well, its my hobby so , whats the big deal Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

That's true, if you consider it a hobby, its the normal cost of a hobby.

The 1968 Valiant is cheaper in gas, however that ones got a gearbox trouble.
This one... which my neighbors kindly named "Blue fear"... ![]() Photographer © Mårten Carlsson That one had a milage of 28 liters/100km and did 90 km/h on full throttle.... Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

No that car is in Denmark now, as for me hope it stayes there.
And it was not nice at all, big, ugly, comfort and noicy like a farmer tractor, bounced and swayed all over the road. The big turck-six we used to refer to as a converter, what it foremost did was converting huge amounts of fuel into noice Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

inline six 300", also regarding it had no power steering, it was extreme heavily operated, steering sucked, outside the local luncheon, where truckers turns with their trailer, This didnt go around...
Sturdy car though , I accidentally pushed a little Terrano a couple of meters forward at the gas station when hitting it. Gives some idea of the size of the blue monster

All Fords are built to last. Many years ago my ex.neighbor arrived (very drunk) at his home after a night of drinking, he had warned the next door neighbor about not leaving her car blocking his garage door, she left it, and he got angry, he parked in front of the car and pushed it (the car was in Parking and had the hand brake on) all the way to where it belonged to, his F-150 was perfectly fine, but the neighbors Buick Century needed a replacement bumper (it was the neighbors wife who actually arranged everything with the affected owner, because she new that her husband was only going to fight because he had previously warned the owner).
Another neighbor had a truck similar to yours, but it was an F-250 with a long box, and I have to say that that one was really big. Felipe Garcia

Oklahoman update... at last drive, we feared the gearbox broke down :-(
The car refused to back up, it rattled and made really scary noise and refused to reverse. My friend just saw the $$$ fly by... Also the parking brake wouldn't disengage, on Cadillac it works the way that it released automatically when the gearlever is shifted to drive. We forced it up, and tried some more, with more banging and screeching from the driveshaft as a result. Then it struck me the other day abouth how the gearbox is constructed, an oil pump sucks the oil up from the bottom of the pan through a snorkel thing, and on the older GM gearboxes this is usually located on the right side of the case. Since we had before this had no trouble backing it out of its garage on level ground, but was now stuck in a sloop with its left side downwards, could it be that the oil level was too low so the oil pump sucked air instead? Topping it up with NINE litres! It worked just fine again :-) Re: An Oklahoma car in the snow

Today my friend bought the car back for less than half he got for it, which is suppousedly a good deal for any such car regardless of condition!
