Hello Henrik,
good idea to speak with us members about improvement of the site. I like it very much and open first time in the morning to see what`s new by my fellow photographers is on the site. I wrote some ideas about on other topics on the cardatabase forum but here is the best place to do it.

First thing must be the quality of pictures. I agree with some of photographers about accepted quality of old picture or the pics taken by older technology or old scaned pictures or slides because those are interesting for us to see them.
Those old pictures with car and the family next to it, from 50`s or 60`s are fantastic. Those must be here as sign of technological improvement in car industry and photography as historical angle of the site, and fast changes in photographic standards. That`s OK, but we have some of friends here, with a lot,a lot of pictures on the site who send a great number absolutely blur, or totally in dark shadow pictures and those are not rejected. I think they don`t look to them at all, just upload those directly from camera. It looks like that. In my case, if I`ll send here everything what I have on my PC, the site will have a new name, Misko site, and Henrik will be the owner of 100.000 pics site in two days, but this is not Henrik`s idea, I am sure. I am joking, of course, but I am sure that many other photographers have the great number of pictures which they don`t send to www.cardatabase.net because of their respect for this site quality and other fellow photographers.

Other thing. The number of categories must grow up. As example, if I have classic cabriolet, what to use as category, cabrio or classic, because both are not possible, or what to use as category for big construction machinery... no tractors no trucks... Military part also can be as category in the list. As example Mercedes Sprinter is minibus, but without windows it is to big for delivery or pick-up vehicle. What to write then?

Upload machine, before the pic arrives to the screeners, must be better created, because there is no chance to change any mistake we make in that proccess when the picture was gone from our PC to the site. There is no upload queue section where we can change some parameters before the screener start his work. The place for information is to small, as example.... I have picture from Geneva CarShow, I wrote data and after that I can`t place any information about some interesting things about the car on the pic. It can`t be in the same window, doesn`t belong there.

Also, many of us visit CarShows, 402 races, classic races or rallies, etc. Those data are next to the photo in the window, and could be easily "events" category, so if you want to see some... Swedish or British classic event... you can find it by the name and the year if the category is on the list.

And I like blue as the colour of this site.

Best regards and wishes from Serbia for our favorite site

Misko,

I agreed completely on your message, but as i said in other thread in this forum, our security on our pics, is the main issue now, and Henrik thought the same.
So, a watermark and copyright bar would be nice. Also i think when you right click on the mouse, should not be possible to save any photo, just because we need to have protection to our work. The usage policy of any pic, concerns the pic belongs to the photographer. If any magazine or visitor wants a copy of our pics, must contact each photographer before anything else. On Airliners.net, many photographers of planes, and i do take planes pics too, are claiming for a large number of pics stolen from there. Before Cardatabase photographers suffer the same problem, would be good focus on it as first issue. Henrik already developed some tools on this and i think will be available soon!

Quality is very important than the number of photos, i have 41 pics in database till now, lower than you, but i focus on the best pics only.

I like the blue colors as it is and also the search buttons like Myaviation.net, where i have some planes pics.

Best Regards and wishes from Philadelphia, PA, USA, our favorite site about cars!

Hi Friends.

I would like to tell you my opinion about the security problem that seems to worry some of you.

I have never had any problem with this website. Since four years, ALL my photos have been displayed within a short time and I’ve never had any of my pictures rejected. Of course I only upload good photos (in my humble opinion) in a limited number.

I’m not a professional photographer and I don’t intend to make money with this job. I just upload my photos for the pleasure to show the cars that I find interesting in Belgium and in the European countries that I visit. I really don’t mind if somebody record or use my photographs. On the contrary, that would please to me. If my photos would come to wearing a watermark or any kind of use limitation, I would stop uploading on CDB.

Never forget that these are only photos of cars, not works of arts!

Friendly greetings to you all of a sixty year old grandpa.

JMB

JM,

Long time without seeing you. As you say, these are not works of art, and same too, I don't plan to make money with this. I might choose not to watermark most pictures, only the ones of the mexican buses (which one has already being stolen and not credited), I have already tried it in two, it's a somewhat lengthy process, but might be worth in the long run.

Hi friends,

The idea is only to prevent a bad usage, like a personal site and/or a magazine, some cases they would not to put our names as the credit of the photos, but should do it.

I am against any kind of watermark on the photo,as our friend JMBalaes. I think that the copyright text bellow the pic as myaviation, airliners, jetphoto etc. is OK end enough security. Many of my photos were and are used by some site visitors of aviation, car, nature and other related sites. I was always asked by mail about the permission. I agree that most of pics are the result of our hobby as JMB says. But in everydays upload from our fellow photographers you can find fantastic and atractive photos like ... Gerhard`s, Jo-Jo`s, Marten`s, Simon`s......Some of those can easily be used as wallpaper, car magazine cover etc. So, the quality improvement is the most important target for all of us to reach. With that I first think about details we can easily do better. No big money and expencive cameras. There is no place on the photo for big trees, branches, carshows visitors heads and legs and bags, garbage on the floor, too strong shadows across the object, to small car object on the picture, shooting object in action is not the permission for us to send complete blured pictures (only background... not the blured car can be accepted)... etc. Those things could be done. After that comes next level.

Misko Ruvidic

Friendly greetings to you all (and to JMB of course) from a fifty-five year old grandpa .

I totally agree with you about the quality of the photos. This is a very good synthesis of what makes a picture a good picture!
Thanks for your greetings.

For our admin friend

I have one question. Why some of our photographers have two "accounts" on Photographer search? Double "account" as JMBalaes, Ilya Plekhanov, Jo-Jo Cence, Felipe Garcia, Daniel Spat and maybe some others on CDB took chance to some other photographers to enter "Magic hundred" list. If it is possible to unite double accounts in one, this will be the improvement which can be done without a lot of time, with instant results - five new fellow photographers automaticaly in the list.

Mine, was joined in up to only one! I've talked to Henrik to fix it, by PM.

I don't know if he will do it wide in the site about all double-usernames-photographers, without each one ask to do it, as own concern, but would be good. And i was been through this before.

I've slowly done it with Felipe by changing the e-mail on his one that has over 7000 photos or something like that because he dosn't use that e-mail anymore, but it would take me days and months to finish doing that going over 7000 photos, holy crap. I am getting the impression that nothing is really going to happen here right now, things are coming together but its still the same old talk that it has been for a couple years, in order for things to happen, you have to make it happen.

I didn`t know that this changing operation with double accounts is so hard to do. I thought that it can be done by some programme comand as I do as photo webmaster at serbian national aviation site www.airserbia.com when some problem shows us. But as I see, PC is a devils machine, sometimes. At www.airpics.com Norwegian aviation site, when I want to change some data about myself I go to profile section and do the changes, and automatically shows those every 24 hours with changement of numbers of visitors in photographers section.

yeah I think it can be done another way, but its hard to do so if your doing it the way I do it. You just need to get Henrik to do it, he has the ability to do such a thing!

Something else about number of categories in upload machine on CDB... You can take fantastic photos of panorama view on 8 or 6 lanes highways, big parking places with cars and big trucks, wide shots of carshow exibitions with a lot of vehicles in one pic, rush hours on the streets, and everything related to trafic.... All this can be in one category. It is easy to add one and call it "something else" or "everything else" as we like and all agree about. But there is a lot of materials in front of our noses and cameras to be here on CDB, an I am sure we allready have many shots like this in our personal databases.

Yup,

As you want......lets change the name of your categories for something such as "Lanes at The streets" and "Parking lots".

Just one thing.......dont forget this site, its about cars, not SITES/PLACES, including cars!!!

People, enjoy search the cars their like, would be really really weird, think that someone that enjoy cars, picking up a category such those as you mentioned, or some renamed by me!!!

Sorry, for me it sounds like freaking mind! Highly doubt Henrik will do it some day!

Dont get me wrong...but try this: Get your car, drive on a rush hour on a busy street, ask someone to shoot your car at the place. Then ask yourself if this is enjoyable, cause your car on the shot, will never get the brand and the car name!

OK if You find it that way.

I agree about the profile of the site.

Maybe it was to much by me, but my idea was about photos very much related to this site, as carshow crowd with lights and many colors. Also, I have many helicopter shots of roads, bridges with a bunch of all kind of vehicles - it is interesting angle of view. The general idea was not to drive Henrik crazy, but to add some new categories. Because it is normal to do some changes at this point when CDB is growing up. It doesn`t cost money or a lot of time, I wrote before about this. As axample... If there are two cars on the pic what to do, which one to name as a pic name? No place. Or...You have convertible, classic and customed car in one...(VW cabrio from 1964 with 2.0L engine and big foot tyres) There is no window or place to write those informations, and easily find this type of VW in the list. If such car is at some event like Carshow or historical car fair, those informations can`t go together either.

I am really starting to believe and agree with everyone on the site, improvements are a must!

THE PROBLEM IS THAT WE NEED MORE STAFF MEMBERS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE. FOR STARTERS WE NEED ANOTHER SCREENER HANDS DOWN, MAYBE EVEN TWO. I am seriously just getting sick of having complaints in place about understaff and this and that, seriously, I don't understand, why can't we just get another screener. WERNER, MISKO (ALTHOUGH WE SHOULD HAVE SOMEONE IN THE USA/CANADA/WESTERN TIME ZONE DO IT) I'll DO IT FOR HELLS SAKES. I just believe it needs to be the first thing to happen here, among a huge huge list of many other things which includes more stats, more searching abilities.

This is directed to HENRIK! IF YOU EVER READ THIS, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO START TO LEAVE IF THINGS DONT IMPROVE, IT'll just be the same site month after month and no one wants that everyone here wants the site to grow and improve with more members and photographers, we can only do that with improvements, change is a good thing and that is what this site needs.

There is nothing more for me to say until we have more screeners that all i can say. Everyone send your thoughts to HEnrik personally you may have a better chance.

Dont get me wrong, but,

is there anybody here to show me the mechanism of visitor`s choice option. The author of today`s Alfa pic have a lot of very very good pics on our site, maybe the best truck pics on CDB, but....I can`t belive he sent us that one (contra light, with all colours of sun spectar) and that this photo is todays visitor`s choice with 29 visitors in 8 days. At the first place, we the photographers, must be the our own upload filter, what is for our site and what is not. It will be the great help for our friends webmasters, because the don`t like very much to say somebody negative things about his work. So, help them to feel better, working on our materials. Bill Gates invented recycle bin in Windows.

Thanks to admin

for new option in uploading pictures. We criticized a lot of things to be done better here, but this option with easy upload pictures with the same data, is a real help for us who have many photos to upload.

PS. We wait for next step of our admin to make us happy.

Uploading update are looking better, I could like asl if you can add a "pic coming soon" or something before getting in new photos...it will help ppl uploading and making sure the pic is waiting in pic coming soon section....

What you think?

We wrote on the forum about photographer`s materials with the same name on two places on CDB list. Now we have eight double names here in "magic 100 list".... Felipe, Robert, Jo Jo, Daniel Spatt, Camargo, fck, Bohm, Walter Muller... Maybe I missed somebody, This status push out eigth new photographers to enter the list, which could be a nice signal to them to make much more photos and climb up on the list. In his post about future of CDB Nicolas nicely wrote about new names and new countries to be here on CDB as a furure concept of the site. This double names problem is one of the "hand brakes" for new people here to come.

I agree with the above, and what I am starting to get pissed off with is the regular inconsistancy with the site being updated and things getting done to the site. I honestly believe and have since day one that we need to change the look of this site. It's old now and it needs a fresh look; personally changing the color to a basic metalic silver would be good because it works best for everyones computer moniter.

We really need this and more regular updates with photos, I don't mean once a day I mean like 3 times a day, or whenever possible. The more people see their own photos the more they are going to want to add.

We need to make changes we've been saying a lot and putting a lot of ideas forward for years now and not a whole lot has happened. While some great changes have been made and we have moved forward.

The site is still lacking something I think; There is something that we have to have our do or add that will bring this site some more traffic and more interest.

Henrik, when you do come online next....its only a matter of time before people start asking themselves what is the point of this place if we can't help out when we want to do more.

Realise that we need those who care to be able to contribute more to this site and allow for progession, or those people will leave.

Renato left and he told me he left becuase of low traffic, we need to do things to increase traffic at whatever cost.
